Marche roadtrip

Mi ci vuole gran poco a cambiare destinazione e rispondere affermativamente.

“Come ho potuto arrivare a 29 anni

Ristorante scelto: Poesia a Tavola.

A me è già venuta voglia di ripartire. 🙂

Monday morning: the girlfriend I was supposed to go to Liguria for the weekend with starts showing the first signs of weakness.
Monday night, drink in Milan with another girlfriend: “If you don’t have plans for the weekend yet, why don’t you come with me and some other friends to Marche?
It really takes me a little to change my destination and answer the affirmative.
My only question (in the sign of my absolute geographic ignorance): “just to know…does it mean we are going to the sea, the countryside, the mountains or what else?!? (what shall I do, my teacher at middle school never went beyond Emilia Romagna..!!)
Well, now, after two great days spent among Recanati, Sirolo, Portonovo and Civitanova, my question is another:

“How come that I’ve got to 29 years old
and never been to Marche before?!?”
But let’s go in order and describe the different stops of my new Summer Weekend, better known as “Marche roadtrip”:

Stay
– Recanati-Villa Scuderi: we couldn’t ask for more to unplug from the daily routine and the milanese chaos. Villa on the Recanati hills, several apartments for 2 to 5 people, b&b formula, swimming pool with a 360 degrees view on the super green Marche hills, sunflowers fields all around. Just waken up, a regenerating dive and swim, just before going to bed, a couple of beers and chats laying on the sunbeds and watching stars. Could you think of a better way to start and end a vacation day?!

Dinner and night
– Recanati: an endless series of dinner proposals to choose from in the surroundings: seafood on the beach in Civitanova, dinner in the Conero, in Sirolo or Numana, we finally opted for local products’ tasting in the centre of Recanati. Selected restaurant: Poesia a Tavola. Expect to eat a lot, too much, not at all light, but absolutely good food. Do not expect, though, a typical and cozy location: the interior is totally cold and anonymous, if you can you’d better book for a table outside, at least you can enjoy the view on the Marche countryside!
Aesthetical appreciation, instead, for the city center of Recanati, destination of our forced digestive walk by night. A sort of ghost city, with the only exception of  piazza Leopardi, location of the municipality and also of the only open pub, Cafè de la Paix. Wonderful tour through the narrow streets, where you can see verses from Leopardi’s masterpieces hanging on the walls of the buildings. It’s a sort of “Tom Thumb’s path” that leads towards  the little piazzetta del Sabato del Villaggio, with Casa Leopardi and Chiesa di Santa Maria di Monte Morello. We forcedly had to sit on the stairs and interrupt the “sovrumani silenzi” of this corner, while declaming verses from “Infinito” and “A Silvia” (rigorously gooled, you gotta know that my knowledge doesn’t include remembering everything by heart, I’m sorry…)?
Last stop at the gardens of Villa Colloredo, another almost empty pub and a couple of beers to bring away with us and then straight to the swimiming pool and the stars (go to hell our bellicose plan to dance at the rythym of Ivana Spagna’s songs at Porco Recanati’s Pink Night event..we now have a certain age, even if it’s not easy to admit…)

Beach
– Civitanova: the first day is more traditional. Glamourous beach club, Shada Beach Club. Straw umbrellas, our sunbeads on the seaside (a sea that has nothing in common with the beach of Forte dei Marmi, we must admitit) and, in order to interrupt the tanning process in the sun, a great lunch with big salads and seafood appetizers, grilled fish and lobster spaghettis. Great food, great  service.

– Conero: on the contrary, for our second day we decided to show our wild side and venture towards Conero. A choice that was then more than rewarded by the beauty of the landscapes and of the sea (a little bit less by the crowd of “Sunday tourists”, I had to strongly abstract in order not to notice it!). Also in this case, why stopping all day long at one single beach, when there are so many beaches that are recommended? So, we went with the double plan: morning at the beach in Sirolo,  Silvio Sud area (you’ve got to venture down a steep slope, furthermore walk back uphill the same patch at the end, but the effort is more than paid back by the view, the beach, the sea) and in the early aftenoon a boat trip to the Due Sorelle beach. Then, towards Portonovo and the Vela beach..super narrow bay, white stones, a little church on the upper hill behind: the perfect location to listen to the last playlist of the weekend, take a nap, read a book and watch the sea at sunset, just before the forced way back to the city.

You’re not convinced yet to go and discover the Marche region?
Have a serious look at the pictures of this post, then.

I already want to leave again. 🙂
